Challenge
Well pump located under stone patio. Masons covered the well tile cover with stones. The stone covered cover was a tight fit over the well tile. This made removal of the tile cover very difficult to remove because it had to be lifted vertically up to clear the surrounding stone patio. There was no clearance allowing us to cock the lid to one side with bars like we normally do. The need for a vertical removal was made difficult by the heavy weight of the lid (thought to exceed 300lbs.)
Solution
After several attempts at trying to "jimmy" the lid up with thin bars etc. We borrowed an engine hoist from our fleet mechanic and used it to dead lift the lid up and swing it away from the tile opening. We used the same engine hoist to replace the lid back in place after we replaced the well pump.
